Order of Worship

May 10, 2020

Prepare to worship by reading:

The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue. Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. (Psalm 33:16–21 ESV)

Sing: “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” (click on song title for video)

All hail the pow'r of Jesus' Name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all!
Bring forth the royal diadem
Ye chosen seed of Israel's race,
Ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,
And crown Him Lord of all!
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,
And crown Him Lord of all!
You are Lord of all
You are Lord of all
Let every kindred, every tribe,
On this terrestrial ball,
To Him all majesty ascribe,
And crown Him Lord of all!
To Him all majesty ascribe,
And crown Him Lord of all!

Acknowledge your sin to God by reading:

O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules. To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against him and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God by walking in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. (Daniel 9:4-5, 9-10 ESV)

Rejoice in God’s grace by reading:

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9 ESV)

Sing: “Completely Done” (click on song title for video)

What reason have I to doubt
Why would I dwell in fear
When all I have known is grace
My future in Christ is clear
My sins have been paid in full

There's no condemnation here
I live in the good of this
My Father has brought me near
I'm leaving my fears behind me now

The old is gone, the new has come
What You complete is completely done
We're heirs with Christ, the victory won
What You complete is completely done

I don't know what lies ahead
What if I fail again
You are my confidence
You'll keep me to the end
I'm leaving my fears behind me now

The old is gone, the new has come
What You complete is completely done
We're heirs with Christ, the victory won
What You complete is completely done

Confess what you believe by reading:

We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus—Israel's promised Messiah—was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate. (EFCA Statement of Faith)

Missionary Update from the Sandvalls:

Sandvall Pic (1)

Our Awana missionaries Tim & Linnea Sandvall are blessed & thankful for good health but like all of us are doing their best to prepare for the unknown in what lies ahead.  They need your prayers for wisdom to work closely with churches in how to continue to reach children & youth through the Awana ministry.  They need God's help & blessing to counsel pastors & Awana leaders in how to continue to have a meaningful connection with their clubbers & in how to continue to encourage Bible memorization using the Awana curriculum.  Thank you for your continued prayers.

Message on Psalm 20 (click on link for sermon video)

Be encouraged this week by reading:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 1:7 ESV)

Questions:

  1. Why is prayer so vital in fighting the good fight of faith?
  2. How does Psalm 20 help you to pray in such a way that prepares you to stand firm in the faith?
  3. We may not be tempted to trust in chariots and horses today, but what are some things you are tempted to trust in more than the Lord?
